Gas Log Repair

Gas log sets sit inside your existing fireplace, and their burner, pilot and valve need the same care as a full gas fireplace. We repair both vented and vent-free sets.

Gas log problems we fix

  • Logs will not light, or only part of the burner lights
  • Pilot will not stay lit
  • Flame is weak, uneven or burning yellow
  • Logs are cracked, crumbling or heavily sooted
  • Remote or valve key no longer works
  • Odor when the logs are running

What we inspect

  • Burner pan, ports and media (sand, embers or lava rock)
  • Pilot assembly and safety controls
  • Valve, connector and gas supply
  • Log condition and correct placement
  • Damper position for vented sets
  • Remote and receiver operation

Repair, replace or upgrade

Logs that are cracked or crumbling, or a burner system that is badly corroded, are usually better replaced than repaired. We will show you what we found and explain the options.

Before your appointment

If you know whether your set is vented or vent-free, tell us. A photo of the logs and burner is helpful too.

Smell gas? If you smell gas, do not try to light the fireplace or use switches. Leave the house, then call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Once the home is safe, schedule service with us.

Questions about gas log repair

Why are my gas logs producing soot?

Logs placed out of position, blocked burner ports or an air mixture problem can all cause the flame to touch the logs and leave soot. Placement matters more than most people expect.

Can I rearrange my gas logs myself?

Log placement is specified by the manufacturer and affects how the set burns. We recommend having it checked if the logs were moved during cleaning.

What should I do if I smell gas?

If you smell gas, do not try to light the fireplace or use switches. Leave the house, then call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Once the home is safe, schedule service with us.
